The work

How we approach shopify seo.

Shopify is brilliant for getting a store live and terrible at SEO out of the box. Bloated themes, duplicate canonical issues, weak default schema, and collection pages that aren't optimised for the keywords your buyers are actually searching for. We see the same recurring patterns across every Shopify and Shopify Plus account we audit.

Our Shopify SEO service is built for UK ecommerce founders who want sustainable organic growth without depending on link-buying or short-term tricks. We focus on two compounding levers: getting the technical foundations exactly right so Google and AI search engines can understand your store, and building deep, topically-authoritative content around your products that earns rankings on merit.

What's included.

Liquid-level technical audit

Theme audit covering duplicate canonicals, faceted navigation, JS rendering, image optimisation, structured data and Core Web Vitals across mobile and desktop.

Site structure & internal linking

Information architecture rebuilt around commercial intent, with a deliberate internal linking model that consolidates authority on the pages that matter.

Collection architecture rebuild

Collections re-mapped to commercial keywords, with above-grid intros, below-grid long-form copy, FAQ blocks and category-level schema.

Product page optimisation

Title tags, meta descriptions, schema markup, image alt text, FAQ blocks and templated long-form copy frameworks that work across hundreds of SKUs.

Topical authority content

Buyer guides, comparison pages, material and ingredient pages, and use-case content that builds the topical depth Google and AI search now reward.

Programmatic SEO

Variant-led, sector-led or use-case page programmes built on Shopify metaobjects when the catalogue justifies it.

AI search readiness

Schema, entity coverage and content structure tuned for retrieval by ChatGPT Search, Google AI Overviews and Perplexity, not just classic blue links.

Reporting tied to revenue

Monthly reports tying organic sessions back to revenue in GA4, with realistic forecasts and a roadmap that updates every quarter.

What Shopify SEO actually includes

Shopify SEO is the discipline of making a Shopify or Shopify Plus store the most relevant, fastest and best-structured result for the commercial searches your buyers are running. It is not "writing a few blog posts" and it is not "installing an SEO app". On a real Shopify store, the work spans theme-level technical SEO, information architecture, on-page optimisation across product and collection templates, structured data, internal linking and a sustained programme of unique, topically deep content.

Every Shopify engagement we run covers technical SEO first, then on-page work, then content depth. We do not earn links through outreach. Authority is built by becoming the most useful, most comprehensive answer in your category, so search engines and AI assistants cite you because the content earns it.

The UK ecommerce founders we work with

We are a UK Shopify SEO team working almost exclusively with British ecommerce brands. The typical engagement is a Shopify or Shopify Plus store turning over between £500k and £20m, shipping into the UK with growing international demand, where organic has stalled and paid social is getting more expensive every quarter.

Sectors we have shipped Shopify SEO for repeatedly include fashion, jewellery, beauty, supplements, homeware, pet and food and drink. The recurring brief is the same across all of them: build a defensible organic channel that compounds, without depending on links the brand can't credibly earn.

Technical Shopify SEO issues we fix

Shopify hides a lot of complexity behind a clean admin, which is great for founders and a problem for SEO. The most common technical issues we resolve in the first 60 days of an engagement:

  • Duplicate product URLs created by /collections/x/products/y paths competing with canonical /products/y URLs
  • Bloated themes loading 1.5MB+ of render-blocking JavaScript before the LCP element renders
  • Faceted navigation generating thousands of thin, indexable filtered URLs
  • Hero images lazy-loaded instead of preloaded, capping mobile LCP
  • Missing or broken Product, Offer, BreadcrumbList and FAQPage schema
  • App-injected JSON-LD that does not validate or contradicts the rendered page
  • JS-rendered redirects and 302s in place of clean 301 mappings
  • Pagination configured with rel=prev/next instead of self-referencing canonicals
  • International stores missing hreflang or running country variants from a single domain
  • Sitemap submissions including thin, no-index or non-canonical URLs

On-page optimisation for products, collections and content

Most Shopify stores under-invest at the on-page level. Title tags lifted from the SKU. Meta descriptions left to Shopify defaults. Collection pages that are nothing but a product grid. AI search and Google both need real, structured information on the page to understand the entity, the buyer intent and how your page differs from the next ten competitors.

For every product page we tighten the title tag to the buyer's actual search phrase, rewrite the meta description for click-through, add a 250 to 500 word unique long-form description covering materials, sizing, use cases and care, and ship FAQ schema with four to six questions sourced from real customer support tickets. For every commercial collection we add a 100 to 200 word above-grid intro, 300 to 600 words of below-grid editorial covering buying considerations, and proper category-level schema so Google can render rich snippets.

Internal linking strategy

Internal linking is the most underrated lever in Shopify SEO and the one we put the most thought into. Every commercial collection on your store should have at least three supporting content pieces (buyer guides, comparison pages, ingredient or material pages) linking back to it with descriptive, intent-matching anchor text. This is what moves a collection from page two to page one once the on-page foundations are right, and it is what gives AI search engines the entity context they need to cite you as a source.

We map the internal linking model in week one of the engagement, then maintain it as new content ships. Orphan products get rescued. Collections that should be parent-child are restructured. Anchor text gets distributed away from "click here" and toward the keywords each destination page is actually trying to rank for.

Proof of expertise

Across our Shopify portfolio we have driven over £14M in attributable organic revenue for 120+ UK ecommerce brands. The detailed numbers live on our case studies page, but a few representative outcomes from the Shopify Plus side of the book:

  • Heritage homeware brand: £18k to £142k monthly organic revenue in 9 months
  • Premium jewellery brand: 412 keywords moved into top 3 positions in 9 months, £2.4M attributable revenue
  • Pet accessories DTC: £600k annual organic channel built from a zero-traffic launch in 12 months

Common questions.

Do you work with Shopify Plus?
Yes. Roughly half our retainer book is on Shopify Plus.
Will I need to switch theme?
Almost never. We work inside whatever theme you're on, with surgical edits to liquid templates where it materially helps performance or SEO.
Do you handle headless Shopify (Hydrogen)?
Yes. We've shipped SEO on multiple Hydrogen builds.
How fast will I see ranking lifts?
Technical wins land in 4 to 8 weeks. Commercial keyword lifts typically take 3 to 6 months. Anyone promising faster is either misleading you or doing things that will burn you later.
Do you build backlinks?
No. We do not run digital PR or outreach link building. Our focus is technical SEO and topical authority content, earning citations on merit, which is exactly what AI search engines now reward.
What does Shopify SEO cost?
Monthly retainers start at £1,200pm and most Shopify Plus engagements sit between £2,800 and £5,500pm depending on store size and content velocity. A one-off audit is £1,800. Full pricing is published on the pricing page.
How long does it take to see meaningful results?
Expect technical movement in weeks 4 to 8, first commercial keyword rankings in months 3 to 4, and meaningful revenue impact in months 5 to 7. The compounding kicks in around month 9.
